My son will be crushed if HS football is cancelled this fall.
I am doing what I can now to prepare myself for that as a possibility and figure out how to help him get through it.

He will be a senior next year and the starting QB for his team. He has some good talent around him too, and this is going to be (at least on paper) a special year for them. He has zero playing time at QB last year because the coach always plays seniors over anyone else, so no film (that's not entirely true actually - he got in for one play and threw a TD). He's not a competitive coach, which seems crazy to say in football, but it is what it is (and this is an entire other story, but I'll save everyone from that).

My son has been talking to lots of coaches at the DIII, II, and a few at DI-AA levels and was supposed to go to camps in June. Some have been cancelled, but there are a few in July that we're planning on. Anyway, his measurables are all there, but if he can't play this fall, say goodbye to any opportunity he may have had to have a special or even a memorable season for his senior year, and much less to any opportunity to possibly play college football.

In the grand scheme of things, an excellent learning opportunity, and, frankly, with all of the real problems people are now facing and will face for the foreseeable future because of COVID-19 and our collective reaction to it, this seems rather petty. But still very real to him as it's been something he has worked his butt off for ever since he was a tall, lanky and absolutely non-athletic 11 year old, and I'm hoping that if the season is cancelled, I'll have the emotional and spiritual wherewithal to help him learn from it and come out stronger because of it.

Any thoughts or talks that could help him learn from this (should it happen), do share. TIA
