Does social distancing apply to couples?

I went to a store this morning with my wife, and encountered an employee who was adamant my wife and I needed to be six feet apart. We came in the same car, and left in the same car, but she was very clear that she wouldn’t serve us unless we were six feet apart. We complied and she served us.
