We have a “Code Green” team
1st call has primary responsibility over cases in the OR and OB at night.
2nd call is also in house (now - used to be just called in if 1st was busy). They have responsibility over all intubations and procedures (lines, etc.) in COVID positive or PUIs over night. We also have a dedicated team to handle them throughout the hospital during the day.
3rd call is backup if both are busy at the same time.

The Code Green team is a CRNA and a MD. They assist each other with the intubation (one induces, the other intubates). When we intubate we immediately place a central line and an arterial line. This minimizes the need for other providers to have to go in and do these procedures and frees them up a bit to take care of patients. We basically tee up the patient as much as possible so that the ICU guys aren’t wasting time doing procedures and instead are free to round and admit patients.

For PPE we use a PAPR with a isolation gown, double gloves, and a head covering under the PAPR. We also put booties over our shoes.

Lately not unusual to get up to 4 “Code Greens” a night. I’m second call tonight and just waiting to get called while I’m sitting here in our office. Hopefully I’ll just sleep through the night.
