but China is the only place where I noticed a blatant disregard for the value of human life. Men, women, young, old, even school children. It didn't matter. Nobody blinks when a guy decides to drive his car 30mph up a sidewalk and then honks at the school children coming out of a school and onto the sidewalk up ahead, refusing to brake or even slow down as he speeds through honking at the crowd of kids in their school uniforms and backpacks diving out of his way. Nobody blinks when the personal driver from the 5-star hotel runs a scooter driver off the highway so he can take the exit he wants to. Nobody blinks when a 60-year-old man is standing on the line between the middle lanes of a 4-lane highway playing "frogger" to get across to the other side. They don't slow down or even honk. Just cruise by him at 65mph, missing him by inches, without giving a crap.
