She was born in 1903 and lived to be 103 years old. I was thinking about her today and remembered of all the times I had talked with her about her youth, not once did she talk about the pandemic, instead most of her stories were about the Great Depression.
This really hit me hard today. Because as sad and scary as the Spanish Flu was, it was over in a couple years. You got it, you either got through it or not but once it was over it was over. My grandma said that the Great Depression felt like it lasted forever.
Now she was only 16 when the Spanish Flu hit and she was in her 20’s and 30’s during the Depression. But if we destroy our economy and hit another worldwide Depression that lasts a decade, our kids will not remember this pandemic and instead their lives will be completely shaped by another Great Depression.
It’s that thought that absolutely terrifies me about this.
