I'd hope this were true. I kind of think it wouldn't be for most. They would say
they would wear a mask/gloves, but wouldn't. I think Americans are just not accustomed to that and wouldn't take it seriously enough I think.
Americans like to be "tough guy" and not look weak. It's cool to not take something seriously and pretend it doesn't affect you. This emerges in lots of ridiculous ways.
