Reading what Germany is doing reinforces the idea that football season will be
severely impacted. Germany is being progressive in relaxing their shutdown as early as April 19, but even they are imposing restrictions on public gatherings and continuing strict social distancing guidelines.

The US isn’t going to relax things until at least May 1 (maybe longer), and we have been hit harder by the virus than they have, so our wind down may not be as soon or as swift.

Absent a vaccine, I don’t see how we are back to filling stadiums with fans in August, or even through the rest of fall. The best case scenario seems like it would be football on TV, but the lack of paying fans interferes with the current financial model. But football on TV (in empty stadiums) what I’m hoping to salvage at this point.

I could also see the NFL being more willing to get creative with solutions, whereas I think university presidents are going to be more conservative about what to do with its “student-athletes.”
