This hasn't been reported much, but consider this:
1. Most universities (including BYU) have temporarily suspended stipends to scholarship athletes.
2. NCAA, to my knowledge, has not granted temporary permission for athletes to gain employment.
3. Family finances are tightening; many athletes come from low-income homes and options are difficult.
How does this impact BYU football?
For starters, very few athletes have family that can afford to keep their son in Provo. Most athletes have returned home, and I suspect there will be a few who never make it back to Provo.
Secondly, among married players, there are many who were dependent on the stipend to pay for food and housing. Athletes can't work per NCAA guidelines, and job market is really tough for the spouse seeking employment. So where do they go now? Return to live with parents?
