Governments are simply trying to coordinate and support the economic calamities; they are not causing it. The governments could have never done anything with shutdowns, restrictions, etc., and the economy would still be in shambles. Consumers and businesses are still freaking out, still limiting activity for their own self-interested reasons, and still not making capital purchases. This whole either "we open the economy" or "we protect the health of our citizens" debate is silliness.

The virus is causing the problem. Consumers and employees and employers are not all idiots.
