Thanks, this is helpful. Both ends have wall covers that are easily removed, so
I should be able to use something like this to put in a better cable.

I bet the display check is only checking your TV’s resolution, not the cabling. I’d bet it’s the cable behind your wall

I don't know if the connectors matter, it's possible they would need to be replaced as well.
