With how poor of a hire he was resume-wise --yes, we got extremely lucky.
Say what you want, but the guy was an excellent defensive mind upon arrival — & as a HC he was driven & zealous enough to find a working, balanced system for our program to be successful within the bounds of its unreasonable self-restrictions.
We really needed a rigorous, idealistic, goal-oriented task-master just to survive at the time. That's what he gave us.
