Man my poor 13 year old seems to have inherited my curse. He’s 5’10” and 135lbs so a few weeks ago I figured I’d
start him on StrongLifts 5x5 especially since covid convinced me to update my home gym and I have a nice bar and rack and bumper plates now.

Anyway, his bench and deadlift are coming along quite nicely but it is SO HARD for him to squat to parallel. Squat is my weakest lift too. I can bench more than 50lbs above my squat. I thought he just wasn’t flexible enough but it turns out even the 45lbs bar was just too heavy for him.

I grabbed my wife’s body pump bar which weighs like 7lbs and put another 15lbs on there and his form is great. Turns out we were just going too heavy.
