There may be something that appeals to him about a lower profile conference
I think there may be a perception on his part that if he came to the WCC he'd have lower level competition and that he would score more and stand out more as a star. He probably feels like the athletes are bigger, taller and faster in some of these big conferences. He probably doesn't feel like its as easy to dominate there like he did in high school.

The appeal to BYU is that you still get to play a high ranked foe like gonzaga and some preseason tournaments that often include games against teams like Kansas and UCLA and Arizona. But you also can pad your stats and increase your highlight reel vs some of the smaller schools.

But the reality is BYU is different than all these other schools in a way that might dissuade someone like him. Lest we forget we have a strict honor code that isn't always appealing to high profile athletes during their primes. I will be surprised if he signs with us for that reason alone. But it could make sense for him for the other reasons people are saying. If he likes the coach, wants to live in Utah, thinks the exposure is good, likes the level of competition, likes the school and its fans and the Marriott Center...maybe thats enough. But people are going to be in his ear telling him to go to texas tech or auburn and its going to be hard to overcome those voices.
