Even those who throw shade at Mac McClung acknowledge his potential for greatness. He has the brains, skills, quickness, hops, and toughness for excellence. The lingering question seems to focus around whether he can look inside himself and learn to play better with others.
That is a matter of introspection, choice, and commitment. It takes courage for him to choose the deepest unknown option at BYU, and that of itself is a sign that he is serious about fixing his weaknesses.
I'm less optimistic about BYU's chances than i was. Since the decision is already made, the purpose of this post is to say, that if Mac joins us in Provo, that decision in and of itself is a sign he could become a great one.
i know that tri State area where Mac grew up and simply see him more comfortable at Memphis/Auburn region. Perhaps Texas because of the historic relationship with the State of Virginia. Washington D.C. is about the only place North that would resonate.
But who knows? If he is really wired for greatness, he may have the guts to step far enough outside of himself to BYU, where he will find a welcoming family and extraordinary mentoring, in and out of the sport. If Mac has that kind of gifted inspiration, i'm all in on McClung.
Most of us are aware of the risk of overhype. But to choose BYU from McClung's position says a lot about him. Bet on a 30+ win season.
Of course, he might also achieve his highest potential if he has chosen to go elsewhere.
We'll soon know.
