Not a chance.
Here's an article from the Daily Universe confirming that it's tickets sold.

The WSJ article identified 96 schools and their attendance, and all but one of them (Navy) confirmed that they reported on tickets sold. BYU would never have a sellout (and we know that it has had a lot of sellouts) if it counted attendance based on tickets scanned. Why do you think BYU always had virtually identical attendance numbers when it was selling out every game?

Look at it this way; capacity at LES is 63,725. Last year the average game attendance was 59,457. We know that BYU had unsold tickets for most if not all of its games; but even if it had sold every ticket (which, again, everyone knows was not the case), that would mean that 93.3% of tickets were used for the year. That would have been the third highest in the country behind only Western Kentucky and South Alabama (and, let's be honest, there is something going on there, I seriously doubt those numbers for those schools). You really think BYU fans used their tickets at a MUCH higher rate than Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan, etc.? And many of those schools were right around 80%; you think BYU fans, with very late start times that tons of people complained about and bad weather where numerous people said they weren't going, had MUCH higher use rates than those schools where football tickets are gold?

Similarly, BYU reported attendance against Idaho State at 57,379. Do you think BYU sold out that game AND 91% of those tickets were sold? Because that's straight insanity.

There is zero chance that BYU is counting scanned tickets. And there's nothing wrong with that, as virtually everyone reports tickets sold.
