Mostly agree except that i think you summarized consensus. Doubt he is overhyped
by most.
My OP is saying it takes courage for him to choose the deepest unknown option BYU, and that of itself is a sign that he is serious about fixing the weaknesses you mention so as to achieve his full potential, which is very considerable.
IMO, most of us are aware of the risk of overhype.
