you're conflating two issues here to try and make a point that I haven't disputed. Sure they give scholarships to walkons on occasion, every school does that, but BYU takes a very different approach recruiting some of these guys than other schools do. I believe BYU has a bigger responsibility to these guys because of that. That does not mean that I think they should all be given scholarships, not all PWO's are created equally, but if you have brought guys in with the promise that they can earn a scholarship, but because you have either mismanaged the number of scholarships you have or else have "over recruited in hopes of building depth" so making it that no scholarships are really available even if the kid "earns" it then that is an issue.

If you are promising an opportunity will be there then you have a responsibility to make sure that opportunity is there when the conditions have been met. I believe that is where the issue is.
