I received an email today from the corporate VP of HR at our European HQ. Never really interacted with him before. In his email, which he copies the North American VP of HR he asks me to verify that I am Diego’s boss. Diego is a dude in Mexico who runs the business there.

After some back and forth I find out I’ve been Diego’s boss for the last year and a half. My interaction with him this whole time has been one phone call. Nobody has been checking on him, nobody has checked up on the business. Apparently I was supposed to be checking up on him. Oopsie
