They seriously look identical. How bad is it if I mess this up?

I can tell which cord goes to which prong. Does the black cord usually go to the prong that is larger on a toaster plug? It seems like I heard that once.

Help! I'm installing a new dishwasher and the plug I got in the install kit has

I believe the white (neutral) wire goes to the wider blade on the plug

This. The portion with ridges goes to white. Smooth to black wire
