My son is almost 9 and I'm starting him w/very close supervision
He's mostly just excited because we just got our 1st lawnmower and he's never done it before. So I'm teaching him about safety first and then being mostly hands on...a little hands off as he progresses.
I still mow most of it, but let him help. In about a year or two once he's gained the trust to do it right while being safe I'll let him take over.
