Not to state the obvious, but Mark Pope will have some real challenges in 2020..
I believe this to be the deepest team at BYU in recent memory and one that goes 12 deep in D1 talent (even if George and Erickson Redshirt, which I believe will happen). While that is very good news, it will pose two very big challenges for the Coaching Staff. 1) How to most effectively spread the minutes among this talented roster; and the next is closely reltated to the 1st, 2) How to most effectively keep all 12 of these gifted players happy with their roles and committed (dialed in) to the team if they are not playing as much as they had hoped? As you know, this is always a Coaches problem, but previously most of our teams had specific starters and specific role players. As I see it, this team is loaded with 12 players who could legitimately start, which makes Mark Popes job in 20-21 more like that of a Coach at Duke or Kentucky (not saying we are or will be as good as Duke or Kentucky and not saying we have the same level of 5 star athletes - I know we don't), but we do have 12 players who are D1 capable players, all with specific and unique talents, therefore I believe that this will be very hard year to manage the playing time and establish the player roles. In 20-21 Coach Pope will have to dig deep to call upon all of the wonderful gifts he has been given to build, motivate and manage this deep team.

The good news is I believe we will put a great product on the floor and we will have an amazing year. As I have previously said, I think we will challenge for both the Conference Championship and the Conference Touranment Championship.

The bad news is I believe we will lose a couple of guys to the transfer portal at the end of the 20-21 season and my best guess is that the two we will lose will be Gavin Baxter and Trevin Knell due to not enough starting time/playing time vs. those players expectations.

I'd like to wish Coach Pope, his staff and the team a fantastic season. However, I do think it will be a challenge...
