Roughly half the US deaths have occurred in nursing homes and care facilities. Those were people on their last legs.
Nearly all American deaths have been for individuals with preexisting conditions and health complications—people who weren't healthy in the first place.
For the vast majority of Americans (those who aren't old and/or medically compromised) COVID is not a major health risk.
I still don't personally know a single individual who has tested positive for COVID or COVID antibodies.
