Rarely does anybody pay that total amount. Not you. Not the insurance company.
At the end of the day, hospitals end up collecting approximately 1/4 of what is billed in any given month depending on the private/public payer mix. (correct me if I am wrong hospital admins on the board).

Billing in medicine is dumb.

The good news for you is that you will eventually hit your deductible and not have to pay anymore.
