Need to have a serious conversation about end of life care in our country as a part of fixing our system. Leaving someone on life extending services for 2 months just to be relegated to a bed is not a quality of life anyone wants. Extending life in those situations should be entirely about family being able to get to the hospital to say their final goodbyes. Couple that with average $1500-2000 emergency room visits that either get paid at a 25-33% rate or written off, and you can see where the costs go up dramatically for those that have insurance.
