I went to a soccer game in Brazil and asked my date, "Why don't they play the national anthem?" She said, "Why would they? It's just a regular season game between two Brazilian teams, it's not like it's the Olympics or something."
There really is no reason to play the national anthem before a normal game. This isn't an anti-America take, It's a little bit like throwing your pearls before swine, in my opinion. Half the people don't even know if you sit down or stand up or take off your cap. People are checking their cell phones or ordering hot dogs. There's nothing about smashing your opponent for 60 mins that screams "I love America." I'm a religious person, but I don't like families that openly pray in Denny's before their meal because I think it isn't really the place or time. I feel the same about the national anthem.
And buy the way, in the early days of sports we didn't play the anthem, president Wilson ordered it in 1916 which means there were several decades before that with no anthem. And President Wilson is a historical jerk if you look it up. Big time jerk.
