to go to The Pop Shoppe before we went camping. There was one up in Sugarhouse. You would grab a crate that held 18-24 soda pop, glass, bottles. The bottles were probably 16 oz.. or less. This store was chuck full of all sorts of flavors. You would pick what you wanted and pay for them. When you were done you would return the bottles and get a discount each time for bringing back the bottles, which they would sanitize and reuse. Then you would repeat the process. It was quite popular. With all the hype about recycling and the environment, I'm not sure why this business model wouldn't work today?
WikipediaThe Pop Shoppe is a soft drink retailer originating in 1969 at London, Ontario, by Gary Shaw in Canada. The Pop Shoppe avoided using traditional retail channels, selling its pop through franchised outlets and its own stores in refillable bottles in 24-cartons.
