It's not like the tire shop goes up to it with a tool and snips them off. What they do is not much different than a thief would do if he was trying to rip it off, only they'll be a tad more careful not to cause any collateral damage.

They do, but that's not helpful if you get a flat somewhere and need to swap out for a spare.

The key is unique to the vehicle. Only thing they can do is break it off.
