One of the power train engineers said Toyota will never have a US Diesel
based Truck. Maybe he was giving the standard company statement but he went on to mention how Toyota didn’t want to be another Volkswagen.

He also mentioned the US regulations were not something Toyota wanted to deal with. They were content just to offer the diesel in non US variants and push for alternative fuels in the IS like hydrogen.

He’s a very senior R&D guy and admitted it was only his opinion so he could be wrong but he did say they were focusing on an improved power train (engine and transmission) for the 2021 Tundra.

Maybe this is for a new type of force induction Super Charger. I thought Toyota discontinued some of them due to long term wear issues on the Tundra. I honestly have no idea and haven’t had time to think about it. It has some interesting verbiage though.
