I've gotten over and over again in the past. Mine is L4-5 also but I wasn't able to avoid surgery. I tried for a year to avoid it but I was in just as much pain. First surgery lasted about 15 years until I hurt it again wake surfing. Had the second surgery a few years ago. I'm mostly good but have bad days here and there.
