RE: I almost hit a wolf tonight.
Tonight we went into Yellowstone about 7:45. We asked the ranger where we should head and he said to make the Old Faithful loop. Sure enough. About 10 miles in we came to a meadow and I pulled over to look. We immediately spotted two animals about 600 meters out in really high grass. They were running and jumping and chasing each other. One dark and one silver. I got my spotting scope out and sure enough. Two adult wolves out playing. I bought a new wildlife zoom lens just for something like this. I couldn’t get the darn thing to focus. My son got a few decent shots with his 300mm zoom.

This trip we’ve seen a black bear eating an antelope, several other black bears, three grizzlies, several bull moose and a couple of cows with calves, the biggest herd of buffalo I’ve ever seen. The ranger said it’s over 1500 head, fox, hundreds of elk, and the wolves.

Tomorrow we are going to try to find golden and bald eagles. My kids have never seen eagles in the wild. It’s so much fun seeing how excited my kids get every time we find animals, but can’t stop talking about finding our goal animal for that day. We’ve been pretty lucky so far this year.

I love living close enough to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks to be able to head up a few times a year.
