Tech companies no longer want to keep employees around and instead are designed to churn through people. No one sees any value these days in longevity, loyalty, retaining in-house tribal knowledge, etc. I'm an engineer and for many years I've been telling my wife we'll likely never be able to settle anywhere for more than 4-5 years. I'm really hoping at some point in my career I can do a stretch of 10, which I haven't been able to yet. You have no choice now but to chase the contracts. Makes me wish I'd done some other kind of career that would have allowed me to run a local business.
