Their 'scholarships' will cover Tuition and Books just like any other student on a scholarship. COA (Cost of Attendance stipend) is what the players use to pay rent and buy food.
Don't get me wrong.. BYU has one of the higher stipends in the west. However, they only get their full stipend during football (spring camp/fall camp/the season). They get a smaller partial stipend during spring and as long as they are enrolled in classes. Most players take summer off and they get nothing June/July.
Spring was canceled... Kalani had to fight to make sure they still got some of their stipend. If you went shopping at the Springville Walmart around march you would have seen a number of BYU starters stocking the shelves to pay rent.
