It’s clearly a negotiating tactic. The players have lawyers writing the demands

The 50/50 revenue split has help get their demands into the national media and now the PAC 12 will likely need to make some concessions to avoid a media frenzy. Clearly they will not do a 50/50 revenue split, but they will get something as a result. Nobody, not even the players themselves think they will get the 50/50 split.
