Depends where you’re looking. If you’re looking at a pet store you are 100%
Looking to buy a dog. They do not adopt out dogs. They sell them for profit.
If you’re looking in a shelter, you’re only technically “buying” a dog but it’s not for profit, it’s a small fee for shots/neuter, and to help take care of others at the shelter. Then it’s adoption because you’re taking on an animal who had a home but doesn’t anymore. You’re not buying a product that has been “made” somewhere else else, been shipped, and sold ti a store to wait to be purchased.
With one thing you are saving a life. With the other you are condemning breeder dogs to a life in a small wire cage with no socialization, little human interaction, and breed a litter every heat possible. And making room for more puppy “products” to take the place of the puppy you bought, which is what keeps the breeder dogs in miserable conditions.

But you can also purchase from a private breeder that is proven to be responsible and does all the genetic testing, socialization, and all the other stuff that makes for an ethical breeder.
