Kids! Argh! RE: "Car Trouble" - More like Kid trouble.
My son came home the other day. Said the fuel gauge was going batty on him but made it home okay. the next morning the car wouldn't start - turns over just wouldn't start. I ask my son if the car was empty. He said he didn't think so - but I gave him the gas can and told him to put gas in it. A little later he comes and says the car still won't start.

So now It's my turn to investigate. I check all the things that I should check - Fuel pressure (check), Air flow (check), Spark (check) and anything else I can think of. Car still won't start. This morning I decided to go buy a code reader, cause I've always wanted one and maybe that can tell me something - even though there is no check engine light.

I plug it in and it tells me the the fuel pressure sensor is bad. A new one is cheap and it didn't sound like a big deal to change. Well for this model of car there is no access from the car to the fuel pump. The only way to access it is to take off the gas tank. Sounds like a new "fun" experience.

I do some research online on how to take off the fuel tank (thanks Youtube) and gather what I need. I am under the gas tank and I decide to bang on it- It sounds really hollow (I actually don't know what a fuel tank is supposed to sound like full or empty). I ask my son how much gas he put in it. He said he didn't know. He asked his little brother to do it.

I grab the gas can and lo and behold it has as much gas in it as when I handed it to him to begin with. His brother didn't do it. So I put gas in it and it started right up. KIDS!!!!!

I guess the gas gauge is messed up still but he can live with that for awhile.
