I'm not even talking about the jokes about Ross' lesbian ex-wife or Chandler's trans dad, which make it seem even more dated. For some reason, the humor just falls flat now listening to it in stand alone episodes.

back then, we were invested in these people's lives and eagerly waited each week to find out what happens to them. without that connection and anticipation, it's just not the same.
