A few thoughts on the Army game...
I watched the Army game against Middle Tennessee State last Saturday. Here is my scouting report.

First, Army is indeed just like Navy, but a step faster/more efficient. The Army QB just runs that offense faster and with more decisiveness. He is probably the biggest difference between the two teams. It will make their offense more difficult to defend than Navy's.

That being said, Army killed MTSU by a thousand small cuts. Their second drive of the game was 19 plays, 9 minutes, 85 yards. That happened all game long.

Army dominated MTSU in the trenches. It is hard to know how good MTSU is, but they looked soft for sure. They had size on the Army but got pushed around by Army's d-line. Army played with lower pad level and greater push the entire game. MTSU looked like they wanted to pass the ball about 2/3 of the time. So their O-line was not fire off and road grading. In fact, they got bull rushed right back into the qb on almost every play.

The MTSU defense did not get any push and allowed Army to run the option without disruption. When you do that against Army, they will gain 4 yards on every play. It was painful to watch.

Bottom line- if BYU comes out with the same type of intensity in the trenches they had against Navy, I think they will win this game by 14+ points. But if they read their own press clippings and come out soft, they could easily lose.

BTW, speaking of MTSU, they had one of the biggest coaching/clock management failures I've ever seen. With about 40 seconds left and 2 timeouts remaining in the first half, trailing 21-0, they had moved the ball down inside the 10 yard line of Army. The qb got sacked back at the 15 and the clock continued to run. They marked the ball down at with about 30 seconds left. MTSU then proceeded to allow 24 seconds to run off the clock before snapping the ball. They completed a pass in bounds at the 6, but the time had expired and the half was over. Mind you, they still had 2 timeouts left. That may give some indication of the preparedness level of MTSU.
