Next question: Do any of you own a wireless gateway (both modem and router in
one box)? Just thinking of space now. Or is there a benefit to having the two be separate?

That's what we bought. It works fine, but doesn't travel through the house. I

Modem -> Firewall (Pfsense) -> 24 port switch -> Netgear Orbi in AP mode.
