I know zero about washing machines. I just know my wife hated the last one that IMO was still working and loves the Speed Queen we got about 3 years ago. You know what they say about having a happy wife.

If it stinks then you are using too much soap and not maintaining it.

Good point. Front-loaders use about half the soap of top-loaders. Not sure why.

It might be because of the agitator. They typically have a post agitator still. The HE washers use a little nub.
