It might be because of the agitator. They typically have a post agitator still. The HE washers use a little nub.
That would affect capacity. But with our new HE washer, I literally watched my shirt on top never rotate positions the entire wash cycle.
I don't even consider Speed Queen as comparable. It isn't sexy. It isn't cutting edge. It's like comparing a Hummer H1 to a bunch of luxury SUV's. *If the Hummer never required maintenance and never broke down.

We don't anymore. Our new place came with all appliances, and we stupidly sold the Speed Queen. Huge regret.
