and relive one day from life, today I might pick a fall Saturday from the mid 1980s when BYU had a home game. My dad was a man's man in a lot of ways, but he was not into sports at all. He grew up in a rodeo family, was a handy man and had a brilliant engineering mind. But somehow no sports in the picture. I fell in love with sports starting with stumbling onto Reggie Jackson's three home run world series game in the late 70s. I'm not very mechanical. More of a reader.
Long story short, we had little in common. Dad wound up in a work situation that brought him in contact with one of LaVell Edward's brothers in law. He suggested to dad that, since I loved sports, dad should get season tickets as a way of bonding with me. We ended up sitting near many of LaVell's extended family members in LES for years. It worked. We started getting season tickets in '83. After that we never lacked for something to talk about.
Dad has been dead for over 27 years now.
What I wouldn't give to wake up on a Saturday, get ready, drive to LES in time to get there an hour or two early and watch a game with my dad.
