I have so many faint but strong memories of that day. Even though I was young I still remember all the kids being in the cafeteria, sitting in the floor to watch it.
Teachers crying after the explosion and being very confused about it all.
I attended Columbia Elementary in S. Jordan and I remember our school making a big deal about it all because we were a shuttle named school.
Watching how it all went down, the lack of oversight and eventual death of those 7 people is so heartbreaking. I had to fight back tears multiple times now. It's so sad to now know it was 100% preventable.
I've always had a huge interest in NASA. A couple years ago we visited the NASA campus in Huntsville, AL and it was a personal highlight to my life. The next year I had the opportunity to spend time with Mike Mossomino (retired astronaut) and talk about the program and his multiple space walks, ect.
I've made multiple trips to Florida around scheduled launches only to end up having them moved. Still one of my bucket list items I plan to see. I'm so glad Elon and Space as X have made it a priority and there are multiple opportunities now.
