in the polls instead of "Louisiana-Lafayette" like I've always seen them referred to. I guess there's a huge back story there where they've tried for years for folks to just call them Louisiana. But Louisiana-Monroe always pushed back against that. Evidently, there's even a law on the books in Louisiana that no school can refer to themselves as simply "Louisiana." But I guess that doesn't prohibit them from asking the Sun Belt to refer to them as "Louisiana." I guess Louisiana-Monroe finally stopped pushing back. But technically the school 's real name is still Louisiana-Lafayette.
I didn't really notice until this year that ESPN and others are dropping the "Lafayette" when referring to them.
Sounds like a lot of the Louisiana-Monroe fans are upset about their Lafayette brethren getting away with dropping the "Lafayette".
"Louisiana Lafayette Rajun Cajuns" is a mouthful, though.
