The whole documentary is about how the major social media sites (FB, insta, etc) use algorithms to direct content to you - this is so that they can maximize engagement with the site and the advertisers who are paying them. They make it feel like you've created your feed - and you have to some extent - but ultimately, their algorithm decides what you see and what you don't see.
