People that watch FB at a fundamental technical level...
...are not clueless. This is the best BYU team in a decade. It isn't just the competition. It amazes me how many of you thought Troy was going to be a little SEC terror. They had one gash play against blown coverage all night. But back to fundamentals:

1) Tackling is the best I have seen since 2012.

2) Receiver group is running the best routes I have seen since 2009, and is deeper than I can ever remember.

3) 3 penalties in 8 quarters for 20 total yards. That's incredible.

4) Averaging >5 yards a carry, best since 2007-8 years.

5) QBs NEVER completed nearly 80% of passes against what was then even lesser competition.

6) Whenever teams like Navy and Troy get trounced by 3-4 TD's by teams from the SEC and ACC those P5 programs get tremendous credibility. BYU did not even let those teams bandage the wounds. BYU dominated Troy as well as anyone in the SEC has ever done.

7) BYU's STs are playing like a top 10 unit. Oldroyd has hit all 4 FGs and 13 extra points.

8) Lineman both sides are dominant and getting a lot of depth reps. The 2nd and 3rd team defenses played better overall in the 2nd half than the starters did in the 1st half. BYU held Troy to less than 50 yards of TO in the 3rd and 4th quarters, no 3rd down conversions in the 2nd half.

9) BYU is playing at a very high technical level. No O-Line holds yet, no late hit hankies yet. Executing with precision, little things:

FOOTWORK at every position
HIPWORK - high level performance and balance at every position.
EYES - BYU DBs & LB's kept eyes on QB better than I can remember, used hand checks without holding to keep track of bigger receivers.
TACKLING wrapping up at point of contact
PURSUIT ANGLES unquestioned near perfection
BACK & RECEIVER BLOCKING best since 2001
GAME SPEED best since 2012 on D, 2009 on O
OPPONENTS - Mid level MWC equivalents.

No BYU did not have an opportunity to play UTAH or MSU or ASU. But does anyone that actually knows the game from a technical perspective think BYU would have lost those three games? Probably not more than 1, maybe none.
