Independence only makes sense if you have enough big games to get the fan base excited, because otherwise you're just playing exhibition games against teams you don't care about. An AAC schedule is much more reputable than an Independent schedule without enough P5s, and you have the added benefit of playing for a conference title and a NY6 bid.
