Puzzling. UH's O line really had trouble with stunts and mixed up blitz's. Yet Tuiaki didn't use em till game end
That O line of Houston seemed to have trouble with stunts and blitz's coming from different directions. Tuiaki pulled them out late in the game and UH QB Tune, who had been looking like an all American, began to struggle. Not nearly as effective because the stunts and blitzing were getting to him. On one hand, great adjustment by Tuiaki. On the other, why did it take him so long to get there? Tuiaki seems to know only one style of defense. Vanilla. I personally believe it's Kalani that steps in and begins making aggressive play calls on D. Maybe not, but one thing was for sure. That O line of Houston struggled with anything outside of vanilla and that's the D flavor Tuiaki played almost all night. To his credit, he finally pulled a LB and inserted 4 down lineman. Just can't figure out why Tuiaki is ALWAYS too slow to pull the aggressive defense lever. He has the players. Strategy, won the ball game last night. Without Tonga, use strategy and it worked. Would like to see Tuiaki do a MUCH better job of being creative with the defense and stop being so slow to use strategy instead of vanilla, toothless calls.
