I just rewatched the game.

First, it seems like refs in general are trained to look for targeting even when it’s not obvious. When Harper got tossed, nobody on either side thought he targeted, or was calling for it to be reviewed, but they stopped the game for 20 minutes to justify a reason to throw a guy out of the game for a regular football play.

Then, the UH dude who very obviously, after the play, and in the spirit of being dirty, head butts Harper - the very definition of leading with the crown of the head, comes back in the game because it’s like everybody forgot about the head but during their witch hunt to throw Harper out.

Then after it all, it goes from Unsportsmanlike Conduct - 3rd down and 31, to auto first down for Houston- but the Unsportsmanlike was a dead ball foul, so 15 yards, right? So 1st and 25, right? No. Inexplicably it’s first and 10 for UH, with a BYU player tossed. Huh?

I was listening to it on the radio and Wrubell was utterly flummoxed. Nobody could possibly understand how it ended up the way it did.
