I find this message maddening, for the reasons in the linked post.

I usually just tell my kids privately that of course it matters and to ignore whoever is saying that nonsense.

If I had the right kid though, and if it was really bothering him, I might try telling him to kick the ball into his own net a couple of times during the game. Then watch the coach and everybody else admit they don’t mean it.
