Wrong. They are not "displaced" from those games if they are playing in them in
the playoff. They absolutely count as the auto-bid of they are in the playoff and that bowl is one of the playoff games.
I think you're mixing the "team not counting for the auto-bid" for the situation of when the champ is in the playoff but the bowl game is not a playoff bowl at which point that bowl is guaranteed a team from that conference regardless (ie Orange Bowl this year).
